Campaign Story
About the Project
At the outbreak of the war, Leket Israel reconfigured its business model to provide immediate assistance to the residents in southern Israel.
During this difficult time, with many people left unemployed, tens of thousands of Israelis evacuated from their homes and others confined to their homes, the citizens of Israel are facing great mental, physical and financial distress in dire need of nutritional support.
After examining the situation and consulting with our nonprofit partners we adapted our operations to provide emergency relief in a number of different ways.
For the elderly and homeless – we purchased approximately 320,000 nutritious hot meals which were distributed through nonprofit partners or direct service.
For families and children – we purchased basic essential food items and provided them through local nonprofits. The purchase was done through local businesses in order to support the local economy and small business owners. Additionally, we provided financial support through debit cards to families whose income was affected as a result of the war.
Six weeks into the war, we continue to ensure that we are providing food and essential support to both our nonprofit agency partners and those affected by the war.
Our operations are currently focusing on:
Supporting the farmers in the Gaza Strip Region
The farmers are the largest donors to Leket Israel and now they need our help. Many farmers have been called up, their fields destroyed, or their farmhands have left leaving them with no help to harvest their produce leaving them without an income. To support the farming community, we have initiated the follow projects:
Purchase of Agricultural Produce – Distributed to our nonprofit partner agencies as well as to catering companies who are cooking hot meals for evacuees.
Volunteers for Farmers – Recruiting thousands of volunteers and matching them with hundreds of farmers to help with the harvesting.
Financial Support – Providing rechargeable debit cards to hundreds of farmers to assist with their immediate needs.
Distribution of hot meals to the residents near the combat zones and the evacuees.
The sources for food rescue have significantly decreased, therefore we have purchased tens of thousands of meals from partner catering companies to distribute to residents and evacuees from the south. In addition to supporting those in need, the catering companies’ business was also impacted by the war and through our procurement were able to bring their business back to full capacity, supplying over 10,000 meals per day.
Direct Financial Support
Providing financial support to families affected by the war through rechargeable debit cards.
